So it’s Groundhog Day (I think), and the results are in. According to the Staten Island Groundhog, Nova Scotia’s Shubenacadie Sam and Ontario’s Wiarton Willie, winter is going to end early, but according to a groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, (that’s Phil in the photo), who ‘saw his shadow’, 6 more weeks of winter are still to come (and the crowd goes wild, booing, cheering, shouts of “we love you Phil”. All this reminds me of lil’ Sebastian from Parks and Recreation). It should be noted that the groundhogs all looked terrified as they were forced from their burrows and held aloft to hundreds of screeching fans (no wonder animal activists are all over this kind of stuff)! So what’s it gonna be, early or late Spring. Well America’s a democracy and so 3 votes to 1 means an early Spring. Yay! I didn’t need a groundhog to tell me that though. Yesterday, I and most of the Village population were sitting in Washington Square Park watching squirrels try to kill each other, and it was the first day of February! Not bad for a vicious New York winter.
